Buprestidae

Stephane

The Buprestidae are a family of beetles known as jewel beetles because of their brilliant, iridescent colors. This family is one of the largest among beetles, with 15,500 known species. Jewel beetles, which are larger and more spectacularly colored, are highly prized by insect collectors. In some countries, such as India, Thailand and Japan, elytra are traditionally used to make jewelry and decorations related to beetles.
