Высота и форма болотных сосен зависит от уровня стояния болотных вод. В наиболее топких местах встречается сосна приземистая, или, как её ещё называют, пумила. Это небольшой раскидистый куст, высотой не более метра. Иногда ствол и часть ветвей находятся в толще мха, а на поверхности видна только густая щетка зеленой хвои
