Когда-то этот остров, расположенный в заливе Андаманского моря, носил типичное тайское название Ко Тапу и не пользовался популярностью даже среди местных жителей. Но в 1974 году ситуация изменилась кардинальным образом – на остров приехала съемочная группа новой киноленты о легендарном шпионе - Джеймсе Бонде. Съемки прошли успешно и, после выхода нового фильма в большой прокат, Ко Тапу внезапно начал пользоваться популярностью у туристов, а затем был переименован в честь бесстрашного агента 007. Фильм получил название "Человек с золотым пистолетом".
