This striking macro image captures the eerie moment when Ophiocordyceps unilateralis has fully hijacked its host — a carpenter ant. The fungus compels the insect to climb vegetation before killing it and emerging from its body to spread spores. Captured by kietbull, this photo reveals the hidden drama of nature’s most unsettling symbiosis.
