Самый красивый московский монастырь – Новодевичий, освященный во имя чудотворной Смоленской иконы Божией Матери, был построен в начале XVI века великим князем Василием III по обету в честь возвращения древнего Смоленска России из польско-литовского владычества. Этот город называют «ожерельем России», и сам монастырь похож на роскошную жемчужину, словно лежащую в раскрытой раковине у подножия Воробьевых гор.
