Караугом

Караугомский ледник - второй по величине ледник России и самый крупный территории Осетии. Его длина около 13 километров, площадь - 27 квадратных километров, спускается ледник до высоты 1820 метров. У ледника два ледопада. Верхний, самый мощный, вырывается через узкие «ворота» Караугомского хребта и вытекает с высоты в 3500 метров, язык ледника достигает длины 800 метров. Нижний ледопад меньше, около 500 метров. Из ледника течёт Караугомдон. Попасть в ущелье "Караугом", или "Слепое ущелье" можно только по высокому ледопаду.
