Romanians are not afraid of rain. At all. Photographers, on the other hand, are at daggers drawn with raindrops. However, if everyone stares at you because you have an opened umbrella in your hands and you are roaming the empty and gloomy streets of a new town, attracting attention is the last thing you want.
About the place:
The old town of Sighisoara is famous not only with the towers but with the colourful houses. They are glued to one another and are remarkably small. Some of them, though not all, are still inhabited, so don’t trespass into people’s property.
Around and before noon these streets are crowded with tourists (they come in buses from Sibiuarouns 12) but arter 13.30 the place will be all to yourself, and for one or two other colleagues.
The story behind the shot:
This is the old town of Sighisoara and by the time I reached that part it was raining heavily. The street is narrow and gorgeous and you have only two hands… Now what? You keep close to one door and take a picture. Then you run to the next doorstep and take another. You can’t see the rain in the shot but it was quite a lot.
Photoadvice and safety:
No camera likes water. So don’t overdo the bath. Napkins will come in handy and you might need a raincoat.
Be careful with empty streets. Sighisoara is a medieval town and that’s why the stroll through the remote areas might prove a bit scary. You never know who’s watching.
