Само название Обихингоу – это сложное слово. Аборигены называют реку просто – Хингоб. Если попытаться разобраться, то получается примерно следующее: Об – вода или река, Хин/Хинг - коричневый или мутный, Гоу - ущелье.
Площадь бассейна реки Обихингоу 6660 кв.км. длина 196 км.
