Песчаная эфа (Echis carinatus) - одна из трех самых опасных змей Узбекистана, наряду с гюрзой и коброй. Это не самая опасная змея на Земле (летальность при укусе составляет 20%), но по статистике каждый седьмой человек, погибший от яда змей, был укушен эфой.
На узбекском языке ее называют "чарх илон" — шумная змея, за характерный звук при движении.
