Today is a very controversial date for most Bulgarians - some hate it and consider it the end of the world, while others mourn the end of a glorious era.

I will not go into discussions on this matter, but on the occasion of that fateful date (because we can't deny that Bulgaria was not the same after that day) I have decided to share with you one shot from a place just as emblematic for the Totalitarian regime.

Note to foreigners:
On 09 09 1944 in a coup d'état Bulgaria witnessed a major change of government and foreign policy. The monarchy was overthrown
and later on the wife of the tsar and their chidren were forced to leave the country. The new Communist government set a new pace and turned upside down the foreign policy of the country - from pro-western orientation to pro-Russian one.

More info about the events that took place then can be found here:

This date and the events that followed divide the society in two. To many Bulgarians who have lived during the Totalitarian regime, it was a time of plenty, welfare and securty. Others who have been repressed by the regime in some way think of those 45 years (1944-989) as the worst and darkest time in Bulgarian history.

Since 1989 when another coup d'état put an end to the Totalitarian regime, this date is one that always divides Bulgarian society.

The place:
The story of Buzludzha peak is no less controversial: from a windy and desolate mountain peak, through one of the largest construction sites, and the communist party's headquarters with futuristic design and today, a crumbling building with unknown fate.

More info about the place can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzludzha

The Monument in the rankings of the most beautiful abandoned buildings in the world, unique with its design in style.

The story behind the shot:
The idea was to shoot 'the flying saucer' as the monument on Buzludzha peak is known, but on the road to it, I found some better models. Someone had abandoned a herd of horses to graze around the monument.

This shot was created as I snapped a few shots through the windshield of the car.
