DeadVlei

DeadVlei – мертвая долина (озеро), получившее известность благодаря остовам мёртвых деревьев, погибших около 700 лет назад. Находится на глиняном плато Sossusvlei в центральной части пустыни Намиб на территории национального парка Namib Naukluft. DeadVlei окружен самыми высокими песчаными дюнами в мире достигающими 300–400 метров в высоту. Самые большие из них - «Big Daddy dune» и «Big Mama dune».
Считается, что DeadVlei была сформирована после дождя, когда ближайшая река вышла из берегов и создала болотца, позволяющие расти деревьям. Но климат изменился и пустыня захватила регион, отрезав приток воды.
