Варанаси - город смерти

Варанаси является священным для индусов городом. Считается, что если умереть здесь, а затем быть кремированным возле реки, то можно избежать дальнейших перерождений, вырваться из колеса сансары и достигнуть нирваны. При этом останки опускаются прямо в реку.
Поэтому здесь уже много веков действуют кремационные зоны, где происходит ритуальные омовения и сожжения усопших.
