Young Southern Elephant Seal in the ice.
Elephant Seals are huge, rather phlegmatic and harmless creatures. Most wildlife photographers are coming to Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic regions to see and photograph penguins. I also mostly had penguins and albatrosses in mind while preparing for my first South Georgia Island expedition. But from the moment my foot stepped ashore I was fascinated with Elephant Seals and they became my #1 subject in the Antarctic.
