Stone Carving

There are many ancient hindu temples across India which are constructed as early as 400BC. These temples are not just another constructure but a true reflection of the skills of the craftsman. Most of these temples are built using stones which were carved with greater details. Carving these stones to create designs at this level needs serious skills and at that time, India had many such artists. All these was hand-made with some hand-made tools as there were not machines then.

Åll these images are the historic temples from Lepakshi, Halebidu, Somnathapura, Bhoga Nandishwara, Shravanabelagola, in South India. These temples are around 800 years old. The entire temple architecture, both interiors and exteriors are outstanding and reflect the mythological importance of Hindu religion.

I was keen to capture some of the carving details and present them in a monochrome style images. This is one of the powerful way to bring out the details of the stone carving and these image style brings out the intensity
