После выхода из зимних берлог, в которых на свет в зимние месяцы появляются медвежата, белые медведицы выкапывают в снегу так называемые "дневные берлоги". В течение нескольких недель они пребывают в них, кормя и приучая малышей к жизни в условиях Арктики.
