Старинное северное село Ковда – одно из самых больших поселений на Белом море. Первые записи о Ковдской волости, относятся к 1500м годам. Ковда отмечена на картах XV века. В конце XIX – начале XX века в Ковде был большой порт, куда заходили корабли не только со всего Белого моря но и из скандинавии. В Ковде был промысел семги, сельди. Здесь действовали три лесозавода, расположенные на островах.
