Gorrión poco marcado que se encuentra en los matorrales. Mayormente gris con la espalda más verde, plumas inferiores de la cola beige y rayas cafés en la cabeza. Con cola bastante larga. Ambos sexos se ven igual. Los juveniles son más beige y estriados. Común en México, pero con rango limitado en Estados Unidos. Típicamente se observa forrajeando en el suelo. Escucha por su canto, una serie de notas agudas que se acelera hacia el final.
