Tucán pequeño y atractivo de bosques tropicales de tierras bajas y sus bordes. Usualmente se encuentra en pequeños grupos moviéndose por el dosel de árboles con fruta, o pueden verse volando de uno en uno al cruzar claros o ir de un árbol a otro. Vuela directo y rápido, es aquí cuando se distingue su pico y cola largos y distintivos. Note el cuerpo amarillo con marcas negras y amarillas, así como el patrón aserrado del pico.
