Река Или́ (кит. 伊犁河) - крупнейшая водная артерия Центральной Азии. Берет свое начало в горах Тянь-Шаня на территории Китая. Протяженность реки 1439 километров, из которых 815 километров (56,6 %) проходит по территории юго-восточного Казахстана. Этот регион носит название Жетысу (Семиречье). Впадает в озеро Балхаш. На своем конечном отрезке река образует обширную.дельту с системой протоков и дельтовых озер. Эти места отличаются богатым биоразнообразием.
