Строительство маяка началось в 1834 году. Маяк строили 3 года и в 1837 году состоялось открытие маяка. Высота 48 метров. Освещение на 25 км. вращением одной вспышкой каждые 5 секунд. До 1971 года основным топливом была нефть. С 1971 года маяк электрофицирован. Сирену добавили в начале 20-го века. В 1940 году был захвачен немецкими войсками, но продалжал работу вплоть до освобождения 1944 года.
Маяк стоит в 800 метрах от береговой линии. Рядом проходит одно из самых сильных подводных течений. Скорость течения в некоторых местах достигает 10 узлов!
