1000 лет назад здесь текла река, дававшая жизнь небольшом оазису посреди пустыни Намиб. Но однажды она собралась и ушла в другое место, оставив своих детей на верную смерть. Деревья погибли, но не упали, а остались стоять в ожидании своей реки.

Сегодня Долина мёртвых деревьев (Deadvlei) - одно из самых посещаемых мест в Намибии и её символ.
